Life in Rural Japan · a guide in the making

A beautiful house.
But is it a life
that fits you?

What we’re developing

Less guessing.
Better questions before you commit.

01 · Before the viewing

What should you look at beyond the listing photos?

Akiya-viewing questions, including the perspective of Yukari’s father, a carpenter with 60 years of experience.

02 · Beyond the price tag

What might the asking price leave out?

The costs and practical problems we wish we had understood earlier, and when to get professional help.

03 · The ordinary week

Can this place support the life you actually want?

Daily routines, convenience, community and the realities that a beautiful property cannot answer.

04 · Finding your place

What does becoming a neighbour involve?

Yukari’s local perspective alongside what we have learned building our life here together.

Planned topics, not a finished table of contents. We’re still developing the guide; the release date and price are not announced.

A note from us

“A cheap house can bring you here. Building a life is the real story.”

We’re Jan & Yukari. Yukari grew up here in rural Ibaraki, and our home is a former community center in her local area.

We’re bringing together her local knowledge and our firsthand experience as a couple building a life here. We want this guide to help you look beyond the dream and ask the questions that matter for your own life.

Our experience is one perspective. The guide cannot replace a property inspection or advice about your individual legal, financial or immigration situation.

A few honest answers.

Is the quiz free?

Yes. You can take it and see the full result without an email address or payment. Saving your answers and receiving guide updates are separate, optional choices.

Does a high score mean I should move?

No. It reflects how your answers align with our questions today. It does not predict happiness or assess a particular home, town, visa or budget.

Does the waitlist reserve a house or a service?

No. It is an email list for the guide. It does not reserve a property, consultation or place to stay.
